There was a great show on TV my kids and I loved.

It was airing on The Learning Channel.

It was called “Accidental Fortune”.

It’s about regular folks who stumbled upon things by accident that make them a fortune.

My favorite story was about an Ohio man who wanted to build a golf course.

So he’s got the tractor out and he start digging a hole in the ground for one of the lakes that would be on his course.

And the blade hits something in the soft ground and stops.

They hit on some kind of bone-like looking thingy from some kind of skeleton.

They call over a rep from the local museum to have a looksy.

And it turns out to be a perfectly preserved skeleton of an 11,000 year old Mastodon.

Later, he sells it to a Japanese Museum for $600,000

Another story was about a little lady who finds a $7 million table in her attic.

And another New York woman who finds a $1 million painting in the trash.

And so on . . .

Now, I don’t bet much.

But if I did bet, I’d bet that you or I are NOT going to be so lucky.

Take this Blue Slide email for example . . .

“It was a hot and beautiful summer day in San Diego California.

My wife, kids and I decided to go swimming to cool off.

We don’t have a pool and we wanted to go to a nice place for the afternoon.

I don’t know about you, but where we live, there are community pools all over San Diego County.

So I hopped on line, did a search for county pools and recreation and I found a list of great pools.

One of the nicer pools that caught my attention was in Del Mar, California.

The cost was only $12 for all of us to get in.

And let me tell you something.

This pool was awesome!

I’ve never seen a city pool as magnificent as this.

This city pool rivals some of the nicer resorts here in San Diego.

The setting was beautiful.

There were tons of lifeguards really watching the kids.

The water was crystal blue in color.

The pool was heated.

But the main reason we went to this pool and not the others was because it had two huge water slides.

One of slide was a green slide. ( the slow and safe slide )

And one slide was a blue slide. ( The fast and exciting slide )

Alan, my son wanted to go on the slides as soon as we got there.

He first went on the green slide.

Not a problem.

He loved it.

He did it three more times.

Every time he went down the green slide, I would go down the blue slide.

We would race.

I would always win.

( Even when I let him go first )

That’s how fast the blue slide is.

The blue slide shoots you down like a rocket.

The blue slide has more twists and turns.

The green slide is safe and predictable.

Just like a comfortable old shoe.

You know what your going to get each time you go down.

I asked Alan if he was ready for the blue slide.

he said, “no, I’ll just go on the green.”

I said, “come on, you’ve got to try the blue slide.

The blue slide is awesome, you’ll love it.”

He said “I’m going to do the blue slide when I’m nine”.

So, I told him to ask this kid in front of us if the blue side is fun?

The kid in front said .. “yeah, it’s fast, it’s fun”.

Then Alan looked at me and said..

“Dad, I’ll go on the blue slide, but on one condition… as long as you catch me at the bottom.

Then, I realized how I had it all wrong.

I thought Alan was afraid to go on the slide.

I thought he was afraid of the journey down.

But it wasn’t that at all.

He wanted someone to catch him at the bottom.

I told him that I’ll be there for you at the bottom of the slide.

And I went down the blue slide and I caught him at the bottom.

And he was not afraid of the blue slide any more.

And I got to thinking about all the students who want to become Marketing Consultants.

You want to take the blue slide but only take the green.

You listen to the free recordings on my site.

But you never really Step Up.. the blue slide.

The Biz Secret I Learned From Ants . . .

Childhood story.

When I was a 8 years old growing up in Atlanta Georgia, my triplet sister, Robyn and I loved ants.

We lived on a large wooded lot located at 540 Riverside Park Way, right off the 285 in Sandy Springs.

And during the summers days we’d find along the side of our driveway big red ant hills.

They were made from the red Georgia clay.

We’d lay on our bellies and watch these amazing little creatures for hours.

Scientists claim ants can carry more than 50 times their body weight.

And did you know a colony of 40,000 ants has collectively the same size brain as a human.

So when it started to storm and rain and thunder, it was our first instinct to protect our ants friends.

Robyn and I would run inside to our kitchen as fast as we could.

And we’d grab a roll of Tin Foil.

And construct a roof so we could cover our ant’s home.

All of them!

And I remember coming out to check on them after the rain let up.

Even as children, we understood how much effort it took our little ants to build their red clay hills.

As I think about this story, I couldn’t help but think about how these ant hills getting rained on are like many of the businesses in our small towns and cities today.

I got involved in copywriting a few years ago and did a few freelance jobs just to get some experience.

I think it was Gary Halbert who said (paraphrasing) that a man who can write copy will never starve.

It really got me to thinking that a man who sells is indeed never out of a job, and in fact can create his own (unlimited) wealth by matching customer needs and wants with products or services that will meet them.

This is why I love marketing in general, and in particular internet marketing where it’s so easy to market globally.

I had heard of hardtofindseminars.com before and recalled the HIMA stuff that I stumbled upon when listening to some copywriting interviews a few years ago.

Some of that stuff was just brilliant – so much so in fact that after a couple of years I still recalled who it was and where I had found it.

I was also very impressed after speaking with you on the phone.

You seem to be the sincere, successful professional that I have been seeking to give me that extra bit of direction that I’m looking for.

I’d like to produce an income of $20,000 per month within the next 1-2 years to be able to accomplish the things I dream of.

I am looking to build a new home, buy a new vehicle, pay off some debt, help my kids go to college, and even return to finish some college myself.

I want to travel and provide for my family and also give some away to worthwhile organizations.

I hate rejection and I also struggle with a fear of failure.

I really need my business to not only succeed, but to thrive.

I also have been medically diagnosed with Adult ADD and I sometimes don’t stay on task as I should, getting distracted and so forth.

I don’t treat that, perhaps I should.

I would like to do seminars through Chambers of Commerce and non-profit organizations, gaining that implied endorsement and also using referrals.

My greatest achievement in life I believe is simply overcoming adversity and maintaining a positive outlook, holding onto faith, and being good to people even when they don’t deserve it.

I would like to say something more traditional here like I wrote a bestselling book, but this is all I got for now.

I also would add that my children still love and respect me, that’s a pretty cool achievement.

My biggest failure would probably be not finishing college when I was young, marrying the wrong girl for the wrong reasons, and generally just being unfocused while I was in my first marriage.

I really wasted a lot of time without having much direction.

Well, I’m working for myself now so I think my boss is great.

My last job I did not like the management – they were both unintelligent and incompetent while being very demanding.

My ability to talk to people I think has helped me more than anything.

I don’t mean being manipulative but actually being concerned about the person I’m speaking with.

People can sense when you’re not genuine.

If you really care about people, and you are honest, and you can smile and be positive good things will happen.

This has helped me get jobs I didn’t think I would get, get promotions I didn’t deserve perhaps and so on.

Financially I have been a failure.

I really have no big success to speak of other than I have a happy and health family.

The business success and the money will come, especially now that I have a supportive wife for the first time.
