			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Back in the day, high school, I had a job as a bus boy at a BBQ restaurant called Tony Roma&#8217;s Ribs.</p>
<p>You may have heard of it.</p>
<p>Anyway,</p>
<p>The worst job you could have there was that of dish washer.</p>
<p>If it was you washing dishes that night, you were low man on the totem pole.</p>
<p>Everyone knew Booth, the dishwasher at Tony Romas.</p>
<p>Booth was a big and fat man with a blond greasy mop.</p>
<p>His hair was always falling over his eyes.</p>
<p>And there was gambling going on in the kitchen on most slow nights.</p>
<p>Frank, the kitchen manager and the line cooks would pitch pennies against the walk-in.</p>
<p>Busboys would play cards on the slaw prep table.</p>
<p>And on one summer night, Booth made the busboys a wicked wager.</p>
<p>He bet us $10 that he could drink a full class of whatever kind of liquid food we offered up without throwing it up.</p>
<p>And we took Booth up on his bet and began to make him a concoction of some of the grossest things we could find.</p>
<p>We filled up a big glass with ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, A1 Steak Sauce, relish and the hickory smoke sauce that Tony Roma&#8217;s would use to bake the ribs in.</p>
<p>We put in Tabasco, pepper and even milk.</p>
<p>And we all gathered around to watch Booth try to drink the goo down without barfing all over the place.</p>
<p>We did not want to loose our tips so we all secretly wanted Booth to fail.</p>
<p>Booth took the first sip and snapped his head back.</p>
<p>His eyes squeezed shut and he let out a red neck kind of yell.</p>
<p>We all started chanting.</p>
<p>Soft a first.</p>
<p>Then loader.</p>
<p>Booth&#8230;.. Booth&#8230;&#8230; Booth&#8230;.. Booth&#8230;&#8230; BOoth&#8230;&#8230;. BOOth&#8230;&#8230;.BOOTh&#8230;&#8230;..BOOTH!</p>
<p>And before you knew it, Booth chocked down the entire glass of gross.</p>
<p>He slams the glass down and wipes his mouth with his sleeve.</p>
<p>We were all laughing.</p>
<p>Slapping our aprons.</p>
<p>And gagging at the same time.</p>
<p>Gary told Booth how gross that was and how he could not believe that he drank that stuff.</p>
<p>And I&#8217;ll never forget it.</p>
<p>Booth smiled, held out his hand and happily took our $10.</p>
<p>This story reminds me of all the gross stuff I&#8217;ve had to do in my life to get to where I am now.</p>
<p>Like late nights</p>
<p>Long tedious days</p>
<p>Setback after setback.</p>
<p>And I know I am not telling you anything new.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ve probably had it a lot worse off than Senoff.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>For over two years I&#8217;ve been promising my kids we&#8217;d get a Nintendo Wii<br />
Gaming System.</p>
<p>And this short story reveals a profound, yet overlooked marketing<br />
lesson.</p>
<p>Saturday, we bought Nintendo&#8217;s Limited Edition Red Wii Console<br />
bundled with the New Super Mario Bros.(TM)</p>
<p>But the problem was it only came with one controller.</p>
<p>So we did exactly what Nintendo wanted us to do.</p>
<p>We want back to Walmart to get another controller so both boys<br />
could play together.</p>
<p>Joe, my oldest son, wanted to go and look at the Bakugans.</p>
<p>Bakugan are the latest toy craze among the 6-12 year old boys.</p>
<p>They&#8217;re plastic balls that pop open and transform into small<br />
fighting creatures.</p>
<p>Spin Master&#8217;s Bakugans, won 2010&#8242;s toy of the year award.</p>
<p>Before we left the house, I told the boys we are NOT buying<br />
anything other then the Wii controller.</p>
<p>And I was serious.</p>
<p>No problem, Joe says, as he spots a Bakugan called Zeon Hylash.</p>
<p>And then he starts with me.</p>
<p>Dad! . .</p>
<p>Can I get just this one?</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve been looking for this forever.</p>
<p>Dad! . .</p>
<p>Lets make a deal . . .</p>
<p>Ok . .</p>
<p>Dad . . .</p>
<p>I&#8217;ll do anything . .</p>
<p>And then Joe turns to me . .</p>
<p>He looks me dead straight in the eyes . .</p>
<p>He&#8217;s got his arms held up and out to the side.</p>
<p>His left hand&#8217;s holding the toy.</p>
<p>And he says . . .</p>
<p>&#8220;Dad . . .</p>
<p>Just tell me WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WANT!</p>
<p>And at that second, I knew my 11 year old son understands the most<br />
basic yet overlooked lesson in marketing.</p>
<p>Find out what your market wants first, before you make an offer.</p>
<p>So, the next time you want something, do what Joe did.</p>
<p>Ask them this question . . .</p>
<p>Just tell me WHAT IS IT THAT YOU WANT?</p>
<p>And it&#8217;s the same when it comes to product creation.</p>

Repair&#8221; model for creating a product that&#8217;s almost guaranteed to<br />

<p>What I do is just get out of my car and I walk along the road.</p>
<p>If there&#8217;s a hole in the road, I fill it.</p>
<p>If there&#8217;s a bump in the road, I even it out.</p>
<p>Holes in the road would be an existing market place where there&#8217;s<br />
something missing.</p>
<p>Every marketplace has something where people want more, they<br />
want something bigger, they want something smaller, they want<br />
something faster, they want something more convenient, or they want<br />
something more glamorous.</p>
<p>Every existing marketplace always has a hole, or two in it.</p>
<p>So, your job is not to come up with the world&#8217;s greatest product,<br />
your job is to get out of your car, slow down, walk along the road,<br />
look for the holes and fill them.</p>
<p>The beautiful thing about holes is they tell you exactly what you<br />
need to do to fill them.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t have to be a rocket scientist or an Einstein character.</p>
<p>You just sort of say &#8220;Oh well that&#8217;s missing, let me bring it to<br />
the market.&#8221;</p>
<p>Another way to look at this is the bumps in the road.</p>
<p>Most markets have inconveniences, they have hassles, they have<br />
things that don&#8217;t work well.</p>
<p>Another opportunity is to be the guy that smooths that stuff out,<br />
that delivers on time, delivers fast, or delivers things with a<br />
smile.</p>
<p>Whatever it might be there&#8217;s always a lot of aggravations in the<br />
marketplace.</p>
<p>If you could be the person that removes those, that&#8217;s your entry in<br />
to a market.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s really what we&#8217;re looking for, as marketers.&#8221;</p>

<p>And lately, we&#8217;ve been doing this game called Make Me Laugh.</p>

going to make them laugh before they hit la la land.</p>
<p>( we&#8217;ve made this a daily thing in our home. )</p>
<p>You can&#8217;t touch the other person.</p>
<p>You have to only use words and sounds.</p>
<p>This is not always easy, especially if your kids are tired or in a<br />
bad mood.</p>
<p>But after playing for months, I&#8217;ve found some simple things to get<br />
my boys laughing and smiling fast before they drift off to sleep<br />
for the night.</p>
<p>And it using simple letters this way.</p>
<p>You make exaggerated sounds like this below.</p>
<p>And the closer it has to do with bodily functions, the better it<br />
works.</p>
