I was busted by police today
My heart is still beating fast as I write this.
At 9:22am on May 14th Thursday morning I was pulled over by Police.
I had just taken my kids to school, and on my way home, I was at a
red light playing with my Blackberry phone.
I had just downloaded a program that lets me look at all the cool
Blackberry phone applications.
Luckily, the police didn’t see me holding my Blackberry.( I had it
in my lap but my hand was on it )
But as I looked up in my rear view mirror, I thought to myself I
could have a problem here with my break light and blinker.
My back left driver side blinker and tail light has been giving me
a hard time.
Sometimes when I step on the brake light, it would not go on and I
would have to wiggle the turn signal to get it to work.
I’ve have not had a mechanic look at this because I know it’s an
electrical problem and I don’t want to spend the money on it.
I thought to myself this fine San Diego police officer is going to
see my bad break light and he is going to pull me over.
I saw it happening in my mind before it even happened.
And sure enough, the light turns green, and I take a left.
The police car is right behind me and on go the red and blue
flashing lights and siren too.
I knew exactly what it was about.
My heart started beating even faster.
I pulled over and stopped the car.
I rolled down the window as I watched not one but two police
approach my car.
He must have been training a new guy.
I fumble for my wallet and pull out my driver’s license.
He asks for my driver’s license, my car registration and my proof
of insurance.
All kinds of stuff is falling on to the floor as I search in my
glove compartment.
I told him I needed help and showed him a bunch of photo copies I
had and asked him if this was it.
He said yes and he told me about my blinker.
I told him I knew there was a problem with it and I can’t
figure out the problem but will take care of it asap.
My voice was trembling because I had adrenaline going through my
body.
I gave him the proof of insurance, and he went back to his car to
check my license.
He verified the registration of my car and came back and told me I
should get it fixed and that was it.
This incident reminds me how gut feeling can tell you want is going
to happen in many situations.
But it’s other people and outside influences that can get in the
way of this gift we all have.
I knew that I was going to get pulled over and I did.

It’s was a beautiful morning ..
On Sunday morning April 26th my kids were getting ready for Sunday
school.
I left the house at 8:50 AM to go to Mission Bay for a run.
It’s was a beautiful morning.
So I’m driving south on Claremont Drive and I come up to a red
light.
There’s only one car in front of me.
It’s a dark green Ford Expedition.
I wait for the red light to chance.
I’m checking my e-mail on my blackberry.
I look up and I see the light turned red again.
I was wondering what’s going on with this car in front of me.
Why isn’t he going?
Is anybody actually in the car?
I figured his car was just parked a bit out in to the intersection
and this was the reason it was taking the light so long to change.
So I waited for it to go green again.
The light turnes green and the car still didn’t move.
I could see someone was in the car.
Their elbow was resting out the window.
I honked my horn and I said out loud “come on”.
Let’s get it going!.
Move it on buddy.
Still nothing happened.
I honked again.
Beeeeep, beeeeep, beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. Come on! I yell.
What’s going on?
Then I realized something was very wrong.
He wasn’t moving.
I got out of the car carefully and slowly walked up to the window
afraid of what I would see.
The window was down and I said hey, hey.
There was a young male asleep in the drivers side.
His head was resting against the head-rest.
He had a Baseball hat on his head and dark sunglasses over his eyes.
I could see that the man was either passed out or possibly dead.
(my heart started racing.)
I didn’t know what to do first.
I reached in and turned his car off.
I could not take the key out of the ignition.
I ran back to my car and called 911.
It seemed like it took a long time for anyone to answer.
I was sent to a voice mail that said all lines were busy, please
stay on the line.
My mind was racing.
I could not think.
I was trying to put my hazard lights on.
For the life of me, I could not figure out where the hell the
hazard lights button was on my dash.
I stayed on the line for about about 4 minutes.
Finally, a female voice came on the line.
She asked what my emergency was.
I said there is a man in front of me at the corner of Claremont
Drive and Claremont Mesa Blvd. who is in a green Ford Expedition,
and he’s passed out or dead.
She asked was he breathing.
I said I did not know.
She told me to stay in my car and wait for help.
A guy came over from the ARCO gas station to my right and asked me
if I needed help.
I told him I was on the phone with 911 and asked him to see if he’s
breathing.
He came back and said that he was.
I asked him to see if he could get the keys out of the car.
He could not but he was able to put the car in park.
The guy couldn’t wake him up.
It took about 10 minutes for the ambulance to get there.
Then the sirens started coming.
The fire engine pulled up behind my car.
The ambulance came up beside me on my left.
They asked me to please move out of the road.
I asked if it was okay if I could leave and they said yes.
I wondered to my self did I do everything I could.
Should I have pulled the guy out of the car?
Should I have checked his pulse?
Should I have done CPR?
I did only what I was trained to do at that very time.
And that was to call 911 and get help as fast as I could.
I could see that the paramedics were reviving him and had him
talking.
I could hear them asking him if he had taken any drugs.
Had he been drinking?
I could hear that he was 26 and his name was Dwayne.
Dwayne was responsive.
I thought for a moment that I’m not going to know what happened to
Dwayne.
I can only assume that he’s going to be okay.
I had a lot to think about on my run.
This experience made me think how paralyzed I became.
I did not know what to do in this situation.
There was so much to think about in such a short time.
And what happened to me on Sunday happens to people in business
all the time.
You just react.
You do what you know at the time.
And in business and marketing we do the same thing.
We chase after the wrong prospects.
We don’t qualify correctly.
The paramedics knew exactly what to do.
They had the training.
They had the experience.
It’s the same for making money on line.
