That’s My Boy . . .

By senoff.michael@gmail.com On May 7, 2013 No Comments

I was talking to my Dad this morning and I was telling him how tall my son is getting.

So he told me about his favorite picture of the boys.

He keeps it on his desk.

It’s one I sent to him Hodgepodged onto a cigar box four years ago.

Dad said . . “Mike, send me some more pictures.”

So I found a few recent photos on my iphone to send to Dad.

One was a photo of Alan at “Town”.

Town is something his teachers organized for the 5th grade class to teach about business, selling and the value of money.

It’s also a fund raiser.

Alan earns town dollars for collecting aluminum cans.

He can spend the money during the last 35 minutes of each Friday’s class, until the end of the year.

If the kids want to buy cool stuff from their classmates, they need to make money.

And they need to make a product others want to buy.

Things like Duct Tape wallets, slime in a jar, soaps boats and ipad video game rental are some proven sellers in Town.

So my wife and I helped Alan come up with something to sell.

The last three weeks of Town, Alan has killed it.

First there was “Space Sand”.

It’s basically colored Epsom slat in a bag tied with a ribbon.

It has “Magic Healing Powers”.

Alan sold 50 bags.

The next week, he wanted something different.

Alan still had a ton of the colored Space Sand left over.

I told Alan that we need to package it differently this time.

So I ordered a roll of 1 inch poly bag tubing.

So we took the Space Sand and filed up these tube bags using my old yellow Eagle brand 10 inch polyethylene funnel.

Waaaallaa. . .

“Space Snakes”.

Yes, these have the same “Magic Healing Powers” as Space Sand.

And after dinner on Thursday evning we all made Space Snakes for town.

Noah, Ethan and some of the other boys told Alan it was a stupid idea and that they would not sell.

I told Alan not to worry.

You can’t guess what someone may or may not like.

You just have to try.

We knew Space Snakes were going to be a hit.

Some snakes were one foot, some two feet, and we even made one that was a whopping 16 feet long.

We called it long boy.

A disruptive kid named Red, bought long boy.

He paid 800 dollars.

Alan’s teacher botched the deal by telling Red he paid too much.

So Red came crying back to Alan for his money.

Alan gladly refunded Red’s money.

“If you offer money back, you always honor it”, I told Alan

Then, last Friday, we sold plants in preparation for Mother’s day.

And Mother’s Day was our selling reason why you should by.

We took succulents from our garden and planted them in little plastic cups.

We used dirt and a few pebbles to top it off.

Each plant was rapped in colored tissue paper.

All 50 sold. Some kids liked them so much, they bought two, three and even four at a time.

Little kids like plants.

When I came into the class, I asked the teacher for some Town Dollars.

( The teachers give the parents town bucks to spend on the kid’s products )

And when I motioned over to him, rubbing my thumb and first finger together for some money, he said . . .

“You need to get some money from your son.

Alan has more money than anyone in Town.

And I quietly whispered to my self . . .

That’s my boy.

New Ben Gay III Interview At Link . . .

By senoff.michael@gmail.com On February 11, 2013 No Comments

Here’s a my new interview I’ve just completed with master sales trainer, consultant, Mr. Ben Gay the third.

You’ll hear it first and only at hard to find seminars.com so let me know what you think.

It’s my third interview with Ben, and this sales trainer ALWAYS delivers.
Go to
http://www.hardtofindseminars.com/Ben_Gay_Interview.htm

The title of this interview is called . . .

Sales And Marketing Legend Ben Gay Reveals To New HMA Students . . . The Secret Of The Close

Ben Gay III is a marketing legend. When he was working alongside Zig Ziglar, Earl Nightingale and Napoleon Hill way back when, Ben was the “young guy.” Now, he’s the last living link to that era of marketing genius.

And in this HMA exclusive interview, he shows new consultants powerful techniques they can use on every deal.

According to Ben, the most important thing you need to remember when you go out there is that you’re just as smart as 90% of the people who come through the door, if not more.

You have a proven system that works and scripts to use along the way. But, he says, in order to close, you’ve got to know what your last sentence is going to be before you start talking, and then naturally direct the conversation to that sentence.

He also suggests that you start seeing people as new friends instead of prospects.

Ben’s had clients for 20, 30, even 40 years because he considers each one a friend. And in this audio, you’ll hear how to make those kinds of relationships too, along with the exact sentence Ben uses to close on a new friend.

You’ll Also Hear . . .

*  The art of the referral fee – and a quick story that illustrates why it’s so important to either do it the right way or just forget it altogether

*  The one person in your town you should always try to think about if you want to do cold calling the easiest (and most efficient) way possible

*  The difference between “sales coaching” and “marketing consulting” and how to add the relatively new field of coaching to your consulting practice (along with 5 other income streams you may be able to add too)

*  Ben’s polite way of turning a free call into a paying client by basically announcing, “Sorry, but the freebie is over”

*  How charging for his advice actually made Ben’s life easier (and more prosperous) and the no-nonsense way Ben gets paid for his time before he sends out the bill

*  A trick for getting prospects to cold call you

*  3 ways you can project credibility without saying a word

*  The little story of a man who built his thriving business of 40 years off referrals generated from one cold call

*  Clear and straight-forward advice for anyone worried about landing their first client

Believe it or not, you don’t have to be some sort of “overachiever” to be successful in marketing.

All you really need is a plan and a little knowhow.

Ben admits he made Cs in high school and couldn’t make a sale for the first six months of his career.

But he kept swinging at the ball with clear obtainable goals in mind.

Ben’s been knocking them out of the park ever since (47 years later and counting).

And in this audio, he shares it all with you.

If you stick around to the end of the interview, you’ll hear the very generous offer Ben’s giving to hardtofindseminars.com listeners on his website .

Melt Some Hearts . . .

By senoff.michael@gmail.com On January 14, 2013 No Comments

On Sunday, my son Alan and I took a drive out to San Diego’s Balbo Park.

Balboa Park is incredible.

And beautiful.

And did I say beautiful?

It’s got over 1,200 acres of pure urban culture packed into one historical park.

In addition to gardens and walking paths, it’s got museums, theaters, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo.

Alan road on his scooter and I was on my skateboard.

And we just explored the park on wheels to see what was in store for us.

In front of the Botanical Building, there was a huge crowd gathered around a street performer.

It was a juggler guy.

His name was David Kamatoy.

Dave was doing all kinds of juggling tricks.

He juggled balls.

He juggled clubs.

And he even juggled toilet plungers.

Me and Alan were cracking up at his self deprecating jokes.

But the coolest thing he did was how he got so many people to give him money at the end of his show.

First, during the show he picked a helper from the crowd.

He picked this cute little kid named Kip.

This little kid must have been about 5 years old.

He was adorable.

The crowd fell in LOVE with Kip from the very start.

Then after a trick or two, he sent Kip back to his Mom.

At the end of Dave’s show, he asked Kip to be his helper again.

He explained to the crowd that any donations would help and this is how he makes money.

So Dave pulls out a tattered brown paper lunch bag and gives it to Kip.

He explains to the crowd that Kip was going to walk around with the paper bag.

And anyone who wanted to offer a little donation could put it in Kip’s bag.

The crowd could see that the small bag Dave gave to Kip, had a huge hole in it.

And he waited for Kip to notice.

Everyone was laughing.

It was all part of the show.

So then, he grabbed it back from Kip and pulled out another paper bag.

But this bag was huge.

It was literally three feet tall.

People were now rolling on the ground with laughter.

Watching Kip walk around with this huge paper back as tall as him just melted hearts.

And that’s exactly what Dave planned to do.

He melted the hearts of his crowd.

How could you not give a little something to Dave’s little helper, the cute kid holding the bag.

So the next time you want to get more money, do what Dave Kamatoy does in his show.

Melt some hearts.

PS. I’ll always remember this great time at the park with Alan.

But I’ll never forget the business lesson I learned from Dave Kamatoy, the juggler guy in San Diego’s Balboa Park.

Here  a video I took of Dave doing his one handed cartwheel of death.
