Steve “Pre” Prefontaine was the greatest runner in Oregon history

He was an American middle and long-distance runner.

He inspired the “running boom” in the 1970s along with Frank Shorter and Bill Rodgers.

Here are a few of his famous quotes

* A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

* I’m going to work so that it’s a pure guts race at the end, and if it is, I am the only one who can win it.

* Somebody may beat me, but they are going to have to bleed to do it.

* Something inside of me just said ‘Hey, wait a minute, I want to beat him,’ and I just took off.

Abandoned as a pup  .  .  .

If you think you have insurmountable problems and the world is closing in on you, let me tell you about a dog named Jackson.

Jackson’s parents were taken away from him when he was a pup.

He has been placed in four different homes.

Twice, he’s been beaten, kicked and abandoned by the side of the road.
