License Plate 4192  . . .

Let me tell you a story.
Late in his Pete Rose’s career, he was chasing one of the great baseball records of all time.

He was trying to break Ty Cobb’s record for the most number of hits in a career.

And all across America, every newspaper had what was called “The Pete Rose Countdown”.

So it’s down to Pete only needing 14 more hits to break Ty’s record.

And one day, a sportswriter asked . . ”

“Pete, you’re a lifetime 300 hitter.

How many bats will you need to get the 14 hits?”

And without even thinking, Pete Rose said, “Oh, that’s easy.

Fourteen.”

The stadium erupted with emotion.

Family of Pete Rose were there.

Reds Fans count the day as one of the greatest their team ever saw because on September 11, 1985, Pete Rose made his record breaking hit.

Hit 4192.

Owner Marge Schott presented Rose with a brand new Corvette, license plate 4192.

Farrah’s Magic Eraser . . .

It’s 1977

I was 12 and to me she was the most beautiful girl in the world.

My cousin had her poster pinned to his bedroom wall.

And she was hot with a capital HOT HOT HOT.

In 1976, Pro Arts Inc. pitched the idea of this poster to her agent, and a photo shoot was arranged with photographer Bruce McBroom, who was hired by the poster company.

According to friends she styled her own hair and did her makeup without the aid of a mirror.

Her blonde highlights were further heightened by a squeeze of lemon juice.

From over 40 rolls of film, she selected her six favorite pictures, eventually the choice was narrowed to the one that made her famous.

The resulting poster, of “my girlfriend”; in a one-piece red bathing suit, was a best-seller; selling twenty million copies.

My cousin said he had an eraser that could erase the ink on the poster and show what’s beneth.

I would’ve paid all the money in my pockets for that magic eraser but he never would show it to me.

I was reunited with my love over the weekend when I found that poster image on a 1977 promotional pin at the famous Kobey’s swap meet on Sunday.

And I bought it for a dollar.

And DON’T ask me to sell it either.

She’s not for sale.

I’m displaying her on my desk next to the photo of Steve Prefontain.
