That’s what John told me and my son Alan last Sunday at the Del Mar Fair.

And John know what he’s talking about.

He’s pitched tens of millions of dollars worth of products over his fifty year career as a pitch man.

He was at the Gripstic booth.

Why Jews Like Bagels . . .

And you know what they say about Jews.

We like money and we like bagels.

Both are true for me.

And so back in August of 2013, my wife, kids and I were in Los Angeles visiting my sister Robyn.

And Larry King, the interview guy from CNN is part owner of the most incredible bagel place.

It’s called the Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company.

And I’m telling you these bagels are like no other bagel on the West coast.

New York is known for having the best pizza, bread and bagels.

The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company has an in house water factory in each one of their locations.

These guys have been able to scientifically duplicate Brooklyn water!

And their process is patented.

They use their “Perfect Water” when making all their breads, bagels, chips and even coffee flavored ice cubes.

They sell their water to local home owners and chefs all throughout California.

It’s not uncommon for people to drive hundreds of miles to get their hands on this holly liquid, not to mention their bagels.   So Larry King, the interview guy from CNN, owns part of the 8732 South Sepulveda Boulevard location.

And he’s got this corner booth set up to the left of the entrance of the restaurant.

He’s got all these pictures hanging up over his nook with all the famous people he’s interviewed.

The manager told us he eats and drinks coffee with his friends three mornings per week day and once on the weekends.

So we get our order and I’m salivating all over the table.

We sit down and look over and there’s Larry King!

The King on interviews!

My wife says, “go up to him, get his autograph with the kids.”

And I said. . .

“Hold on honey, I’m hungry.

Not now.

He’s eating with his friends.

I don’t want to bother him.”

I was just plain C H I C K E N.

So Larry gets up and walks out the door.

My wife tells me to go after him.

And I say . .

“boys “let’s go!”

And we run out the door after Larry.

He’s walking up the street with his back facing us.

And I yell.

Larry!

He keeps walking.

Hay Larry!

And he turns around and thankfully sees my two boys.

And I say.

“Larry, the boys want to get your autograph.”

He was very nice.

Asked where we were from.

He let me take his photo with the boys.

And I say . . .

“Larry, we’re Jewish.

And you’re Jewish.

And we both know Jews like bagels.

And I ask him what makes these bagels so good?

And he steps back.

Looks at us.

Points his pen in my face and says

“Kids . . . I’ll tell you why Jews like bagels.

It’s the WATER!

How To Stand For Something . . .

With the new time change, my son Alan and I have been taking walks around the old neighborhood after dinner.

It gives up some time to talk, tell jokes and sing songs.

I grabbed a branch to use as my walking stick that we got from the park the day before.

And then Alan stole it from me.

I wanted a walking stick too.

And I remembered I had a ski pole from a set of skis that we bought as a recent garage sale.

And we started walking.

And Alan, has his branch.

And I, have my ski pole.

We get the park and I’ve got to tie my shoe.

So I stop and instead of laying my pole down, I jam my poll into the soft grass and blurt out to Alan, “My stick does that”.

And Alan tries to do the same with his branch from the park.

And it breaks in two.

My stick was a SCOTT, Aluminum Ski pole.

135 centimeter long.

Made in the world’s most sophisticated ski pole factory in Italy and became the global leader in ski pole production.

Ed Scott, a talented engineer revolutionized the sport of snow skiing with the first tapered aluminum ski pole.

Aluminum immediately replaced the sport’s existing use of bamboo and steel.

This one revolutionary invention positioned Scott as the technical product leader in the ski market.

What made Scott different?

Lightness.

When your gear is light, you go faster.
