How To Break In Line . . .

This morning, my 8 year old son, Alan and I went to Einstein
Brothers Bagels for breakfast.

He likes the cinnamon sugar bagels and I loooooove the Vanilla
Hazelnut Coffee.

So we walk in.

We’re first in line.

We order our food.

We sit down.

And we start to eat.

And within minutes, the place is getting packed.

The line is now out the door.

And at the worst possible time, Alan wants some ice water.

I look at the line.

I look at Alan.

And I look back at the line.

And I notice something.

There are two lines.

There’s one long line where people place their food order.

( this is the line that’s out the door. )

And one short line, to the right, where you pick up your food.

Clerks are working in both lines.

So I tell Alan . .

“I’m not going to wait in this long line for your ice water.

You’ll either have to wait until you get to school or you can walk
to the front of that short line and politely but directly ask for
what you want.”

Seconds later, Alan’s back with his ice water.

He sits.

And we complete our delicious breakfast.
