Tiny Fingers . . .

By admin On July 22, 2009 No Comments

Can I share with you a little story about trust?

I take my two boys ( 6 & 9) to swimming lessons on Monday
and Wednesdays at 4:30 PM.

It’s at a local county pool up the street.

Their lesson is only 30 minutes and I swim laps and
mess around in the pool while they’re doing their thing.

I give my boys the thumbs up and tell them they are doing
great as they pass me by.

I encourage them to swim faster, go stronger and remind them
to do their very best.

There’s a small part of the pool sectioned off three lanes
wide and half the pool’s width that anyone can swim in while
their kids are in lessons.

On Wednesday, I was watching this 2 year old girl and her swim
instructor.

This was the most adorable little girl.

She was wearing a hot pink bather and a shower cap with bright yellow
sunflowers on it.

She had a huge smile on her face.

She was standing at the ledge of the pool and the instructor
was in the pool encouraging her to jump in to the pool.

Each had their arms extended out with all five fingers reaching
towards one another barley touching.

The 2 year old had these tiny little fingers reaching out as far as
they could go.

This little girl was smiling and laughing and wanted to grab
the instructors fingers before she made the jump into the pool.

The instructor would pull her fingers back so they would
not touch forcing the girl to reach out forward over the water.

This little girl was afraid to make the jump.

The instructor was smiling and saying, come on, juuump, you
can do it, no no you have to jump, come on, Jump, Juuuuuump.

The little girl wanted to jump so bad.

She was having the best time.

I watched this for about 6 minutes and 45 seconds.
( I was rooting the little girl on.)

The instructor was as patient as a saint.

She kept her arms open wide so the little girl would feel save
after she made the commitment.

And what seemed like an eternity the little girl finally jumped
off the side-lines and into the pool.

I was so happy for her.

And the instructor was great.

She gave the little girl a kiss and said “you did it!”
She said in a high pitched voice .. “I’m so proud of you.”

And you should have seen the little girl’s face and how
proud she was of her self.

I went on to do some laps.

And about 15 minutes later I glanced over to where the little girl
had jumped.

And she was jumping over and over again into the pool.

It’s a cool little story that is so symbolic of life and
taking risk.

It’s about give and take, trust and encouragement.

And so I figured I would share this story with you.

And that is what business is all about.

You just have to make the jump.

And you have to be smiling too like that 2 year old girl.

Let me be your instructor.

The letter of his F **ing life . .

By admin On July 22, 2009 No Comments

Here’s a very inspiring email from a student in Australia that I
must share with you today.

There’s an important life lesson in this letter you don’t want to
miss.

Michael,

It’s Robert Joy from the land down under!

I’m 30-something and down and out on my luck, long time
girlfriend left early last year, lost a huge beach side house with
views of the city and surrounding hills, sort of like Malibu.

Sold everything I had worked hard for in the last ten years.

Everything including my muscle car, hotted up sports bike that owed
10 grand in just the engine and go fast parts, personal effects
that
whole damn lot!

The only thing I did not sell was my bed, clothing, a big screen
TV, some DVD’s and other small stuff. having to take my former
girlfriend to court to get regular access to my kids!

My car had an argument with a semi and lost, the money from selling
everything went towards buying my first business which went bust.

To most that would be enough to write a top ten country and western
song….that’s until you sent me the cd with all the goodies….

I’ve secured my first client.

They are a local real estate agent needing some copy for a direct
mail piece.

Well I smoked it under pressure, in less than one week I wrote the
letter of my F****ing life!

It is at this moment being sent out, the principle of the agency
just about fell off her chair and had a fit!

This is one of the most successful agencies in my local area and
her exact words were ..

“Rob, I have never read any thing quite like this”.

This letter blew her mind into the middle of next week!

Michael, I owe you a big fat bear hug!

You are a life saver, from being dead broke, no cash at all, one
failed business attempt, lost my kids, my girl, my car, on the
bones my arse and now I’ve just written a piece that will help this
real estate agent get more listings, and I’ll be charging like a
wounded bull!

To top this off she has invited me to look at her website and all
other advertising and marketing for her entire business top to toe,
not bad for a bloke down and out!

Thank you, I owe you big time.

All the best
Yours in Peace

PS. I love getting e-mails like this. I hope you enjoyed it as much
as I did.

{!firstname_fix},I think the lesson here is that when success is
not an option and becomes a necessity, we often surprise ourselves
and do what we never thought we could do before.
