I smell failure . . .

I smell it all around me as I walk into local businesses.

I can smell it through the telephone when talking to students.

I can smell it in the air around me.

Quitters everywhere.

And yet, it doesn’t have to be this way for you.

You may not agree with what I’m about to say.

Because most people don’t understand how this works.

Here’s what you do to turn failure to fabulous.

Take your list of business ideas you plan to do “someday”.

Write each of these ideas onto it’s own yellow Post-it note.

Now stick all your Post-it note ideas on to your bedroom walls.

All four of them.

Then, ask your wife, girlfriend, Dad or partner to blindfold you.

Then to spin you around three times.

Now . . .

Take a dart or a knife or a screw driver with a sharp point.

And throw it hard at a wall.

And whatever Post-it note idea your dart hits, that’s the idea you do.

This is the project you get started on.

The one you’ve been putting off for years.

And I’m serious about this.

The problem with you is you’re waiting for something that’s never going to happen.

You’re waiting for the right moment.

You’re waiting for the right project.

You’re waiting for the right set of conditions.

And that’s not the way life works.

You will go further and faster by working on something rather than nothing.

Answers come from taking action.

There was a great show on TV my kids and I loved.

It was airing on The Learning Channel.

It was called “Accidental Fortune”.

It’s about regular folks who stumbled upon things by accident that

My favorite story was about an Ohio man who wanted to build a golf
course.

So he’s got the tractor out and he start digging a hole in the
ground for one of the lakes that would be on his course.

And the blade hits something in the soft ground and stops.

They call over a rep from the local museum to have a looksy.

And it turns out to be a perfectly preserved skeleton of an 11,000
year old Mastodon.

Later, he sells it to a Japanese Museum for $600,000

Another story was about a little lady who finds a $7 million table
in her attic.

And another New York woman who finds a $1 million painting in the
trash.

And so on . . .

Now, I don’t bet much.

But if I did bet, I’d bet that you or I are NOT going to be so
lucky.
