Michael,
I know you are busy.
But if you do choose to read this, it could be one of the most
important letters you ever read.
Let me explain.
My interest in marketing started about a year ago when I
discovered Dan Kennedy and subscribed to his No BS Newsletter.
And I started attending meetings with his local certified chapter
adviser.
Beginning May 2009, I have not missed a single one.
I drive 60 miles each way from my home in Santa Fe to Albuquerque
and invest five hours each time.
After a couple months, I joined the local adviser’s
tele-coaching group and two months after that upgraded to his
MasterMind group.
I also decided to attend Dan Kennedy’s Super Conference in
Chicago a couple months ago.
Finally, I competed in my local chapter’s Marketer of the Year
competition. I finished in 2nd place, a handful of votes from
winning the top prize!
All during ths time, I was working full-time as a sales rep with
a Xerox company here in New Mexico.
My intention was to use this newfound knowledge to improve my sales
and profits as a sales rep.
Let me take you back about 9 months:
I had been the top rep in New Mexico for my company for two
years.
Even though I am not the stereotypical glad-handing, back-slapping
gregarious salesman and I don’t believe much in “sales techniques”
and “closing,” I consistently produced gross profits on my deals
that were 50% higher than the company average.
Not to brag, but I cared about my clients and they believed,
liked and trusted me.
They were willing to pay more just to work with me!
Then the economy went into a tailspin.
And my business within my company’s business took a severe hit.
Now, I don’t want you to think I am making excuses or crying in
my beer.
The reality is that 95% of my business was financed through
leasing companies.
And my lease approval percentage dropped from 90% or more to 50% or
less, all within six short months!
Not only that, but many of my clients and prospects became
cautious, gun-shy, afraid to make 5-year lease commitments, even
when they agreed my solutions made sense!
My company sold about $2.7 million dollars in equipment in March
2009. The CEO considered this a major disappointment.
Imagine his chagrin when the sales for April and May were $2.6
million–COMBINED!
Management’s response to this reality was to micro-manage daily
activity.
And when I say management, I mean all the way up to the CEO’s
office at company headquarters in Denver.
“How many phone calls did Joe make today? How many business cards
did Rick pick up while wasting his time cold calling on the streets
yesterday?”
About two months ago, I hatched a plan to start some marketing
projects on the side and build up a consulting practice slowly but
surely.
I hoped to eventually replace my JOB income and become a full-time
entrepreneur.
Well, the combination of a severe drop in my income and my
company’s ultra micro-management forced me to make a difficult
decision: to leave what had been a satisfying, lucrative position
with a $17 billion dollar year company (Xerox).
I decided I would be better off taking this as a sign that I should
start my own marketing consulting business–full time and
immediately!.
Previously, I had also decided to take a chance on studying with
Jay Abraham, joining his year-long, $350 per month Masters of
Recessionary Income telecoaching group.
As you know, Jay Abraham is a legend. Despite this fact, I think
this may have been a mistake on my part.
His information is great, but there is no real “system” for how to
translate the info into a business.
I’m a smart guy, but maybe I bit off more than I could chew.
If there is one thing I learned from Dan Kennedy, it is “swipe
and deploy.” Don’t reinvent the wheel.
Take what is working elsewhere and apply it to your own business.
And this leads me to the HMA system. I have listened to
Richard’s stuff on your site. I have listened to the case studies.
I read all the emails you send me.
I am convinced that the HMA system is just what I need to fast
track my brand-new marketing consulting career.
Especially combining it with my sales skills and everything I have
learned about marketing, direct-response, copywriting and business
building in the past year.
I know learning and implementing a proven system like Richard’s
makes more sense than going out and counting on trial-and-error to
be my teacher and guide.
Now comes the hard part.
I am going through a divorce and paying my own bills while still
trying to help my soon-to-be ex-wife cover her bills.
I have left my job.
The sad truth is this: even though I recognize that acquiring the
full HMA system at a ridiculously low investment of $2500 is the
opportunity of a lifetime, I simply don’t have the liquid funds
available right now.
Now comes the even harder part. It’s hard to swallow your pride,
but here goes:
Would you consider any other arrangement than a one-time
payment?
Would you consider an agreement that would pay you a percentage of
the first x-number of deals I land as a result of
using the HMA system?
If you were, I would even be willing to invest more–much
more–than the $2500.
Michael, I know this is a long-shot. And on the off-chance you
are still reading this, you’re probably thinking to yourself, “why
should I bother with a guy who can’t even come up with a measly
$2500?”
Believe me, I understand if that’s what you ARE thinking.
But if there is even a small part of you that is willing to work
something out with me, I can promise you this:
I am as serious as cancer about becoming a successful marketing
consultant and business owner.
I have the talent and the drive to achieve my goals. I KNOW I WILL
BE SUCCESSFUL, even if I have to tough it out without the HMA
system.
But like I said before, I know it would be easier and quicker
WITH the system.
Michael, I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing you get letters
like this all the time.
People who think they can do it but don’t have the money and ask
you for a favor.
What I do know is that if you were willing to take a chance on
me, it would pay off for you in spades.
You could take royalties far in excess of $2500 in return.
You could expect plenty of audio business from me and my clients.
You could have another compelling case study and the best damn
testimonial you’ve ever received!
Well, they say long copy out-pulls short copy, but I think I’ve
gone on long enough. I really hope there is a way we can work
something out to our mutual benefit.
But if not, I understand. And I will figure out a way to invest
the full $6000 for a new system some time in the future.
Respectfully yours,
Rick
P.S. Thank you for reading this whole letter. I know you are very
busy and I respect your time.
P.P.S. I will be happy to call you at your convenience when you
return from your holiday weekend if you feel there is anything
further for us to discuss. Enjoy the 4th!

PS. There are so many marketing students who are in Rick’s
situation. All capable and excellent future HMA consultants that I
want to help.
Rick and I worked out something that we were both happy with.
If you want to tell me your story I will consider a way to help you
get started as an HMA Marketing Consultant.
I want to help you out. I really do.
