The Valley Of Kings . . .
When I first came to San Diego I met a man that changed my life
forever.
His name was Tom Stollenwerk.
He lived alone in the back of his Encinitas print shop.
He was divorced and estranged from his five children.
And we become friends.
He was the first to introduce me to the fun and wounder of business.
Stuff I had not understood before.
He always told me when selling to look for the insecurity.
He directed me to some of the old time masters of selling like Elmer Wheeler and Fred Herman.
We were friends for 8 years until he died of heart failure.
On my wedding day, he gave me two framed pieces of art.
Each frame was a beautiful reproduction of an Egyptian hieroglyphic.
Each are hanging on my office wall.
He told me that when I looked at this art it was to remind me to
build something great.
Build something that would last long after I was gone.
And I’ve never forgotten this gift.
And every time I look at this art, it reminds me of my quest.
